Goodwill GoodGuides Offers “Teaching Tolerance” Series

JOHNSTOWN, PA, February 2, 2016— Goodwill of the Southern Alleghenies, through its GoodGuides Youth Mentoring Program, has planned a series of talks to educate individuals on the different religions and spiritual traditions throughout the world in order to help facilitate tolerance. The seven-part series entitled “Teaching Tolerance” runs February 11 through May 5 and will be offered at the Goodwill Administrative Offices at 540 Central Avenue in the Moxham section of Johnstown, in the third floor conference room from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

GoodGuidesLogo_logo with RTo address the growing need for understanding in our community, GoodGuides is partnering with Wendy Henderson, the Senior Pastor at Calvary United Methodist Church in Johnstown and GoodGuides mentor. Each session will offer an overview of a religion/tradition, discuss its culture, and provide an appropriate snack.

February 11: Buddhism, presented by Wendy Henderson, Calvary United Methodist Church and Michael Daquila, AmeriCorps/GoodGuides

February 25: Hinduism, presented by Wendy Henderson, Calvary United Methodist Church and Michael Daquila, AmeriCorps/GoodGuides

March 10: Islam, presented by Samaah Izmirli Sbeitan, Appalachia IU8 Advisor, Islamic Religion and Middle Eastern Culture

March 24: Judaism, presented by Wendy Henderson, Calvary United Methodist Church and Michael Daquila, AmeriCorps/GoodGuides

April 14: Christianity, presented by Reverend Jeff Conn, Grove Avenue United Methodist Church, Johnstown

April 28: Atheism, Agnosticism, Unitarian Universalist, Earth Religions, and African Religions, presented by Wendy Henderson, Calvary United Methodist Church and Michael Daquila, AmeriCorps/GoodGuides

May 5: Panel Discussion, All

Seeking Religion/Spiritual Tradition Representatives

The Goodwill GoodGuides Youth Mentoring Program also requests assistance from any practicing individuals from a religion or spiritual tradition who would like to be part of this series or represent one that is not listed.

Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request for individuals with disabilities.
